Physiotherapy uses movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice to help people affected by injury, illness or disability.

What conditions may be suitable for physiotherapy?

  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain such as back pain, temporomandibular (jaw) joint pain or neck pain
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME) and fibromyalgia

Xổ số thứ tư hàng tuầnYou may be referred to one of these classes:

  • Pilates - a gentle form of exercise mostly performed lying on a mat. Pilates enhances relaxation, improves mood, core strength and flexibility. It is particularly useful for developing a strong, flexible spine to help prevent recurrence of back pain.
  • Graded Exercise Therapy class - a gym based class that includes stretching, aerobic and strengthening exercises. These start at your own level of capability and gradually progress at a rate that does not worsen your symptoms.
  • Chronic Back Pain Education programme – a six week programme which teaches you about the causes of pain and how to manage it effectively.
  • Techniques such as manual (‘hands on’) therapy and acupuncture may be used.
  • Bespoke home exercise program- exercises for you to do at home usually daily that are specifically designed to address your needs.

Xổ số thứ tư hàng tuầnIt is helpful to bring comfortable clothes and footwear to change into if necessary such as shorts, leggings and vest tops.

At your first appointment, the physiotherapist will ask you about your medical condition and examine you. You may also be asked to complete a questionnaire to assess the severity of your condition or to do a simple fitness test (usually a timed walk) to help determine what treatments are needed. The physiotherapist will then devise a treatment plan.

The physiotherapist will check your progress at the end of the session and will ask you to complete some further questionnaires. We will send a report to your GP and referring doctor.

  • Restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by injury or illness
